Weekly News and Events - February 8th

Pioneer Families,

I am writing to ask for 15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey to improve our school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf. There is a parent survey and a student survey. The student version of the survey will be administered by one of our staff members.

Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on March 5 by clicking this link: YouthTruth Family Survey (qualtrics.com)

Please note:

  • The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
  • We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
  • If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
  • If you write any comments, please include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.If you have any questions about the survey or our plans for using your feedback, please feel free to contact me. Below you will find a few updates and reminders.

Board Approves Elementary and Preschool Hybrid Models

On Thursday, the DJUSD Board of Education heard a presentation and recommendation for the Elementary School Hybrid Learning model. I have attached the approved plan. The approved plan prioritizes maintaining continuity in classroom configurations and minimizing teacher re-assignments, whether a student is participating in classroom instruction in-person through Hybrid Learning or Distance Learning.

Youth Truth Survey (Students)

During February, your student will also participate in the YouthTruth Survey. Pioneer Elementary School staff members will help to administer the survey. The 2021 Youth Truth Family Survey includes questions on school engagement, culture, communication and more, and is offered in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, and Russian.

Launching On-Campus Extracurricular /Co-Curricular Activities

Even before we experience the conditions that permit us to return to campus in a Hybrid Learning model, we explore offering an assortment of in-person extracurricular, co-curricular, and curricular opportunities on our campuses. I will keep you all updated as we move forward in our planning.

Free COVID testing for DJUSD Staff and Students

DJUSD is working with Healthy Davis Together to provide saliva COVID tests for asymptomatic DJUSD staff and DJUSD students. If you would like your child tested at one of our school sites, there are two items to complete. Please go to the Healthy Davis Together website at https://healthydavistogether.org/testing/ and register your child. Then go to the DJUSD website and fill out the DJUSD Minor COVID Testing Waiver (English) (Spanish). Please have your child bring the waiver to one of the following test sites at times specified below to have your child tested. Parents do not need to be present for testing once the waivers are on file.
