A Message from the Superintendent

A new message from Superintendent Bowes was shared with the community on Friday, May 28th. The message includes upcoming COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics and information on our Parent Survey, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and Mental Health Support. This message is available to read on the DJUSD website. Please see the link below.

Dog Dash Week!

Pioneer's Dog Dash is going great, and students have surpassed the $10,000 fundraising goal! Great job!! As an extra incentive, Pioneer PTA will add additional prizes if we reach over $15,000 in donations. We start running on June 1 & 2, this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember to bring your water bottle! If you are distance learning, you may join your class and run, jog, or walk with them. If this option does not work for your student, you may participate in your neighborhood or come after 3 pm to Pioneer and run one of the tracks. Distance learners not running with their class can pick up participating prizes in the office until the last day of school. Go Prairie Dogs Go!

If you have any questions, please e-mail the PTA at [email protected]

Water Bottles

This week is going to be a hot one! Please remind your student(s) to bring a water bottle to school with them each day. We have four water bottle fill stations on campus for student use. Also, please remind your student(s) to label their bottle with their name.

Summer Enrichment

DJUSD is pleased to announce an exciting variety of summer enrichment experiences for our students. Following a year of sheltering-in-place during the pandemic, we recognize the importance of in-person opportunities to express creativity, critical thinking, music, arts, movement, and play for learning and wellness. We have designed a series of summer events and activities for our students (Kindergarten through 12th Grade), led by Davis City partners, service providers, and some DJUSD teachers. See the link below for more information.

Super Happy Awesome News

We are looking forward to our very first virtual musical! The live'ish (pre-recorded) broadcast will be Thursday, June 3rd @ 7:00 pm. The show is about two siblings who start rival online news programs. It is cute, sweet, and touching. You don't want to miss it. The Zoom link is listed below.

The Last Dance!

Our final Club Perry of the year will be held online Friday, June 4th @ 3:00 pm. It has been a lot of fun hosting these virtual community-building dance events. We look forward to seeing all Prairie Dogs joining for the last dance of the school year, so put on your dancing shoes and get ready to party! The Zoom link is listed below.

PIO Annual Variety Show

We are currently taking submissions for our annual variety show! Students should come up with an exciting act they would like to share with the Pioneer school community. Make it wacky, funny, fantastic – whatever they want (as long as it's school-appropriate). Have someone help them film or record their act (please make it under 2 minutes in length). Please share the video with Mr. Daugherty at [email protected] or share it with Scott Daugherty on Google Drive. Please include "Variety Show" in the subject line. All Submissions are due by Tuesday, June 1st, and the show will take place on June 8th at 7 pm. The Zoom link is listed below.

Get Tested … Win Prizes!

Healthy Davis Together is sponsoring a contest to reward our students for getting tested for Covid-19. Each time your student gets tested at Pioneer, they will receive a raffle ticket that earns them a chance to win an awesome grand prize (an iPad, Nintendo Switch, or Bike). Pioneer Elementary testing occurs on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

6th Grade Celebration

This year we are excited to bring back our end-of-the-year tradition of honoring and celebrating our 6th graders as they transition to middle school. This year's Julius Caesar event will be held during the week of June 7th-10th. Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, each class will have an assigned day for Gladiator Games, which parents will be invited to attend during the week. The Chariot Races, Egyptian Dance, and Finals of the Chariot Games will be held on Thursday, June 10th. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend on Thursday, June 10th, because of the potential size of the group. We appreciate your support as we work to make this event happen within the constraints of our health and safety requirements.
