Bicyclist and Pedestrian Safety

Student safety is a top priority for DJUSD, and bicycle safety is an essential component of that work. The return of many students to campus on April 12 has meant more student cyclists and pedestrians on our streets and sidewalks, and their safe trips to and from school are something that adults and students collectively can help to ensure. Some essential programs can support bicycle and pedestrian safety to and from our campuses, including the City of Davis' Safe Routes to School program (see link below). This program includes Bike and pedestrian maps to many of our schools and tips and protocols to ensure student safety. We encourage all students and families to practice safe biking habits such as wearing a helmet, following all road signs/signals, and being alert to surroundings. We also encourage all drivers to be aware of both cyclist and pedestrians as they make their way to and from school.

The Wednesday Morning Announcements and our Facebook Page this month will include videos, posts, and articles recognizing and honoring the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the United States.

Get Tested … Win Prizes!

Healthy Davis Together is sponsoring a contest to reward our students for getting tested for Covid-19. Each time your student gets tested at Pioneer, they will receive a raffle ticket that earns them a chance to win an awesome grand prize (an iPad, Nintendo Switch, or Bike). Pioneer Elementary testing occurs on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Let's Dog Dash

Pioneer's annual Dog Dash is set for June 1st and 2nd. Class cohorts will be invited to run during this yearly event, where everyone is celebrated. Participating students will be given prizes along with top-class sponsorships also earning prizes. Distance learners will also be invited to run either in their neighborhood or after school hours. Be on the lookout for e-mails from the PTA, and we look forward to celebrating this event.

6th Grade Celebration

This year we are excited to bring back our end-of-the-year tradition of celebrating our 6th graders as they transition to middle school. This year's Julius Caesar event will be held during the week of June 7th-10th. Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, each class will have an assigned day for Gladiator Games, which parents will be invited to attend during the week. The Chariot Races, Egyptian Dance, and Finals of the Chariot Games will be held on Thursday, June 10. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend on Thursday, June 10, because of the potential size of the group. We appreciate your support as we work to make this event happen within the constraints of our health and safety requirements.

Pioneer Variety Show 2021

We are currently taking submissions for our annual variety show! Students should come up with an exciting act they would like to share with the Pioneer school community. Make it wacky, weird, funny, fantastic – whatever they want (as long as it's school-appropriate). Have someone help them film or record their act (please make it under 2 minutes in length). Please share the video with Mr. Daugherty at sdaugherty@djusd.net or share with Scott Daugherty on Google Drive. Please include "Variety Show" in the subject line. All Submissions are due by Tuesday, June 1.
