Dear Pioneer Families,

I want to honor all of our mothers on this Mother's Day. Thank you for being positive role models for your children. Thank you for the lessons you teach about the importance of acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, happiness, sharing, perseverance, and kindness. Thank you for your courage, dedication, and compassion for your family. I wish you a Mother's Day filled with joy, laughter, and love. Happy Mother's Day!

Below you will find the weekly news and events as we inch closer to the end of the school year.

Sick or Symptomatic Students

Please remember that if students are found to be sick or symptomatic at school, they will be sent home and remain home for ten days. Students may return to school earlier with proof of a negative OVID-19 test and a doctor's note confirming an alternate diagnosis as long as the symptomatic student is fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and other symptoms improved. Please email your student's COVID test results and doctor's note or bring a hard copy to our site.

On-Campus Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing

DJUSD is partnering with Healthy Davis Together to bring COVID saliva testing for asymptomatic students and staff to our school sites. If you would like your child tested at one of our school sites, there are three items to complete.  Parents do not need to be present for testing once they are registered through Healthy Davis Together, and a DJUSD waiver is on file for the student.  We are not currently pulling students from instruction time at our site to allow time to transition back to school. However, if you would like your student taken out of class to COVID-19 test, please email hperry@djusd.net to make arrangements. Please go to the Healthy Davis Together website at https://healthydavistogether.org/testing/ and follow the steps to register your student.

Dress Code Reminder

The goal of our dress code policy is to promote student safety and create a respectful community that is welcoming to all students.

Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Students must wear clothing that includes a shirt with pants, skirt, dress, or the equivalent
  • Shirts and dresses must-have fabric in the front and on the sides.
  • Clothing must cover undergarments; however, waistbands and bra straps may show
  • Fabric covering all private parts must not be transparent
  • Footwear must be worn at all times, and must not limit student participation in school activities
  • Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff (hoodies must allow the student's face and ears to be visible to staff)
  • Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education (PE), science, etc.

Non-Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Clothing may not depict, advertise, or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other controlled substances
  • Clothing may not depict violence, obscenities, pornography, nudity, or sexual acts
  • Clothing may not use or depict hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected groups
  • Clothing must not threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff member
  • Shirts showing skin in the mid-torso are not permitted.

Generally, students who do not follow the dress code will be referred to the school office to correct the issue, including changing into PE clothes, wearing a t-shirt provided by the school, or being sent home to change. Every effort will be made by school staff to avoid embarrassing or shaming the student. All corrective actions will be reported to the parent/guardian.
