weekly news and events

Pioneer Families,

Once again, I want to thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a nation and community, responded to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19 in March of last year. I am very proud of how our staff, students, parents, and community leaders have continued to handle the demands we have faced. We continued to educate and support our students during the most unusual of circumstances through so many challenges, barriers, and transitions. We are truly stronger together.

Last Thursday, the Board of Education approved a five-day/week Phase 4 Modified In-person Instructional plans for preschool through twelfth grade (https://djusd.net/about/superintendent_message/d_j_u_s_d_m_o_v_i_n_g_t_o_p_h_a_s_e_4). The revised model allows students to return to school in person with more frequency and greater numbers. Pioneer families verified their choice for in-person or Distance Learning in the parent portal before spring break. If you have changed your mind, please contact me as soon as possible. Our teachers and staff are making plans to see all in-person students daily upon our return on April 12.

Throughout the week, please expect to receive updates from our staff regarding our official re-opening on April 12. Your continued support and positivity as we strive to do what is best for all of our students and employees during these challenging times are much appreciated. Below you will find a few updates and reminders.

Welcome Back Activities

Our sites and parent volunteer groups have prepared activities to celebrate the re-opening of school and to welcome students back onto campus. These activities will take place this week. The following are some of the activities all students can engage in this week.

  • The Pioneer PTA is organizing campus beautification projects to ensure the school campus is ready for students to return on April 12. They will be on campus April 8-11, and I hope you can make it too! Below you will find a sign-up form to sign up for time slots to ensure there are not too many people on campus at a time. Please visit the link below and sign up! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48a8ad2aa6fac25-pioneer

  • Students will have the opportunity to take school pictures on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 6th and 7th. Lifetouch will be on campus from 1 pm to 6 pm. We ask any interested family to sign up for a time slot using the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050844AAA72CA3FA7-pioneer1. Students must wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines on campus and should wash hands before coming on campus. Students will be able to remove face coverings for the picture.

  • On Friday, April 9, from 1 pm to 4 pm, Mr. Thomas will be providing school tours for new families. There will be a link on our website tomorrow for any families interested in a tour and question and answer session.

Free On-Campus COVID-19 Testing

DJUSD is proud to provide free asymptomatic COVID-19 saliva testing for DJUSD staff and students, thanks to our partnership with Healthy Davis Together. If you have not already signed up through Healthy Davis Together with the DJUSD agency, we encourage you to do so before we begin Hybrid In-person Learning on April 12. Students and staff who are currently registered for testing through Healthy Davis Together can transfer their registration to DJUSD and receive a gift card for their time. Directions to sign-up and each sites’ testing times can be found on the District website. Staff and students may visit any DJUSD site to get tested.
