Drop Off and Pick Up Zone

Drop off and pick up during the first week of school went very well! Thank you for partnering with us to make sure our students get to school and home safely. Here are a few reminders:

  • The Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zone starts at the parking lot entrance and extends west along Hamel St. toward Pioneer Park.
  • Please do not drop off on the south side of Hamel St. Students should only cross the street at the crosswalk. Dropping your student off or picking up on the south side of Hamel and not crossing at the crosswalk is dangerous.
  • To help with drop-off and pick-up congestion, please consider biking or walking to school, if possible.

Student Transitions between In-person and Distance Learning

Students will be allowed to transition to in-person learning or distance learning.

  • In-Person students may transition to Distance Learning at any time by informing their teacher(s) and the school office and completing the request form document (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeyesghKr0RjM8kgeBlnWfcDP1txAZkg8j0b1_0a3y_jFaHJQ/viewform)
  • Distance Learning students may transition to In-Person Learning on a weekly basis (beginning on Monday of each week). Requests for transitions to In-Person learning can be made Monday through Thursday of the preceding week by completing the request form document.
  • Requests to transition to In-Person Learning will be reviewed each Thursday in the order they are received. Families will be consulted and notified of In-Person activation on Fridays. Please note that transition to In-Person Learning relies upon classroom availability.

Students Traveling Out of State

If your student travels, domestically or internationally, before they return to school, they must:

  • Get tested 3-5 days after travel and self-quarantine for seven days.
  • Self-quarantine for ten days if they don’t get tested.
  • Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to self-quarantine.

On-Campus COVID-19 Testing

To keep our community safe, we strongly encourage all staff and students to be tested at least once a week. Our new testing hours are every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. Students can test before school, during their movement break, or after school. If students plan to test during their movement break or after school, here are a few things they must remember:

  • Students should not have had anything to eat or drink, including water, for the thirty (30) minutes before they go for testing.
  • Know that there a few scenarios that could play out once a student tries to check-in:
  1. If a student HAS already been registered on the HDT website AND has been switched to the agency “DJUSD,” AND has a DJUSD waiver on file, it will be very fast for them to get checked in and proceed to the saliva testing table! They can get saliva tested that day.
  2. If a student HAS been registered by their parents on the HDT website AND has a signed DJUSD waiver on file but has NOT yet been switched to agency DJUSD, the HDT team will make a quick phone call to their Tech Support and have them switched over. They can get saliva tested that day.
  3. Suppose a student HAS been registered by their parents on the HDT website but does NOT have the DJUSD waiver and has NOT been switched over to agency DJUSD. In that case, the HDT team will make the agency change by calling their Tech Support line, and the student will go home with a paper waiver that needs to be signed and returned. Parents can also use this link to fill out the waiver online: https://www.djusd.net/covid-19/healthy_campuses/covid_testingThey will NOT be able to test that day unless the parent takes care of this step and brings them back in the afternoon with the signed paperwork or has completed the waiver online
  4. If a student has NOT been registered on the Healthy Davis Together website and parents need to start the process, they will be given a blue handout with a QR code to the directions, which are also printed on that blue form. They will also take home the paper waiver to be signed and returned. Parents can also use this link to fill out the waiver online: https://www.djusd.net/covid-19/healthy_campuses/covid_testingThey will NOT be able to test that day unless the parent takes care of all of these steps and brings them back in the afternoon with the signed paperwork or has completed the HDT registration and DJUSD waiver online.

Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch

A grab-and-go breakfast and lunch are available for all Pioneer Elementary School students. Teachers will count how many students would like breakfast and lunch at the start of the day. The breakfast and lunch will be delivered to each class. The intent is that the lunch will be eaten that afternoon, and the breakfast will be saved for the following morning. Here is the monthly menu for your review. https://www.djusd.net/departments/student_nutrition/menus_and_documents
