Pioneer Newsletter 10-9-22

Dear Pioneer Families,

We had a busy week here at Pioneer! We had another Perry’s Path assembly, and we also had a special luncheon with Davis Senior High School football students to play with the students who had their name drawn with Paw Prints.

Thanks to everyone also for being creative with “Anything but a Backpack Day” on Friday. We had multiple luggage, laundry baskets, pillow cases, coolers, and more that came to campus, so we hopefully will be doing this again in the future! We also had Coffee on the Quad on Friday for Pioneer families, so thanks for all the families that showed up and got to enjoy coffee/treats (this happens every First Friday from 8:30-9am)!

Here are some upcoming things to remember:

Wednesday, October 12th= National Walk or Ride Day. Please celebrate with us by walking or riding a bike to/from school on that day!

School Site Council (SSC) Elections and Meeting (Tuesday, October 18th 4:30pm-5:30pm)

The school site council (SSC) meets every month to go over budgetary needs of the school, get input from the community and faculty and hear from different resources. We are having elections for two parents and two parents have applied to this position: Jennifer Revis and Conor Kelly. Please vote them into our School Site Council here! Our first meeting will be on Zoom on Tuesday, October 18th from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The entire community is invited to come to these meetings but only the SSC members will be able to vote on things in the meetings.

Jennifer Revis: I am thrilled about the opportunity to serve on the Pioneer Elementary Site Council! I have two first-graders who recently started Pioneer and a two-year-old who cannot wait to “join her sisses at school.” I believe in and will work to promote a positive school culture and set high academic goals for our current and future students. As a mother of bi-racial children, I care deeply about making the Site Council a group that respects and honors the diverse voices of our school community. I enjoy working collaboratively and always strive to find common ground in decision-making, a skill that I developed in my legal background specializing in contract negotiations and procurement. For the last 5 years, I have served on the Yolo County CASA Board, and I spent the last three years on the executive committee as Secretary. Through my work at CASA and my experience as a mother, I have seen firsthand the difference that stability, community, and inclusion can make in a child’s life, and I believe my skills can improve the educational experience for all students and families.

Conor Kelly: My interest in participating on the School Site Council stems not only as a parent but also from my years of work with several schools and districts. Previously, as a behavior coordinator and PBIS consultant, I participated as a contributing member to the formation of many School Plans for Student Achievement documents as well as serving on committees to develop our district's Local Control and Accountability Plan. Now I look forward to providing similar guidance to develop and monitor the progress of my own son's school from the perspective of a parent.

Halloween (October 31st):

To keep the focus on learning, we will not have costumes at school on Halloween. However, we are inviting families to wear costumes during our Fall Festival on Sunday, October 16th 12-3pm so that students can still celebrate Halloween with their families and our community but not during instructional time.

Sunday 10/16= Fall Festival (12pm-3pm)
